Under what hair care conditioner?

There are tons of hair care conditioners out there.

Some are great, some are good and some not so
good. With so many choices, how can we know which conditioner will be the best suited for
your tresses?

The best thing to do is to consult with your hair care professional. He or she will prescribe the
right product for your hair needs. Salon products tend to have a lower pH and so helps close
the cuticle back down, sealing in moisture, filling any gaps, and creating shine. Plus, generally
any professional product bought in a hair salon, is guaranteed. If you are not 100% satisfied
you can get a refund or a different product. But if you decide to venture on your own, here is
some information to help you out.

The main objective of a conditioner is to keep the hair hydrated. Hydrated hair is shinier, fuller,
smoother, less frizzy and bouncier. Look for small molecular sized oils like like coconut, argan,
moroccan, jojoba, macadamia and marula oil. These oils can penetrate deeper into the hair.
Also look for a humectant like panthenol which is very hydrating to the hair.

Stay away from:

  • Mineral oils, they just coat your hair and do not treat existing damage.
  • Waxes, which can make the hair feel great, but just as your outdoor candles do, they can attract dirt.
  • Alcohol if it is one of the first few ingredients.
  • Silicones, they can weigh the hair down and prevent moisture from penetrating the hair. (These are good to have in styling products; however, as they reduce frizz)

Now that you have found the perfect conditioner it’s time to put it to good use!

How to apply hair conditioner.

Straight hair

  • Shampoo and rinse hair.
  • Wring out excess water.
  • Start with a nickel-sized amount of conditioner for short hair. For medium to long hair use a
  • quarter size. You can always add more conditioner to hair but if you use too much you’ll be
  • wasting your product.
  • Apply to the ends of the hair and work your way up to the scalp.
  • Leave on the hair for a few minutes. Rinse.

Curly Hair Girls.

  • Shampoo and rinse hair with tepid to cool water.
  • Unlike your straight hair counterparts, do not wring out your hair.
  • Start with a half dollar size amount of conditioner.
  • Scrunch the conditioner into your mid shaft and ends. You can also use a wide-tooth comb to comb the conditioner through the hair and then scrunch your hair again.
  • Leave on the hair for a minimum of five minutes.
  • Rinse with tepid to cool water and leave between 30-50% of the conditioner in the hair.
  • Keep your styling products in the bathtub and scrunch them into your hair before you towel dry.
  • Using a microfiber towel scrunch your hair to push product into hair and remove excess water.
  • Diffuse or air-dry hair.
